Vacation All I ever wanted Vacation Had to get away Vacation Not meant to spend it sick from poor handling of food
Okay, so the hit song by the Go-Go's really didn't use those exact words. But who wants to be sick from food you packed for a trip that was mishandled?
This week, a look at handling food safely while on the road.

Quote of the week: "Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is as important as how we’ve lived."- Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek VII: Generations (scroll over or click on iPaper below to have a drop-down menu that includes a print option)
Flip-flops are also known as jandals in New Zealand; chappal, Hawaii chappel, Qainchi (scissor-like) chappals in India and Pakistan; thongs in Australia; slip-slops in South Africa; go-aheads in the South Pacific; ojotas or chancletas in Spain; chancletas o sandalias in Mexico, Central America and South America; and japanke (literally, Japanese) in Croatia.
Flip-flops are a very basic type of footwear. I could never get used to the feel of the strap between my toes, so I don't wear them. And know I have an even better reason not to.
This week, Flip-flops: best thing you could ever have or bane to man's existence?

Potatoes are prepared in many ways: skin-on or peeled, whole or cut up, with seasonings or without. The only requirement involves cooking to break down the starch. Most potato dishes are served hot, but some are first cooked then served cold, notably potato salad and potato chips/crisps.
This week, the culinary uses of the potato.

Given how digital the world has become, we are hardly bothered by having to deal with one string of numbers after the next: credit card numbers, social security numbers, IP addresses and so on. Do these numbers hold any meaning, or are they just random sequences in a database?
This week, a look Five Familiar Numbers and the Logic Behind Them.

On the Mickey Mouse Club, Wednesday was Anything Can Happen Day.
The goal of Anything Can Happen Wednesdays is education. It may be a bit off the wall at times, but it will be educational, I promise. Sometimes it will be technical, sometimes it will be grabbed from the headlines, sometimes it will be oriented towards personal growth.
There will be no pop quizzes, no final exams, no oral dissertations. Just enjoy it.
